Helps with sleep disorders and circadian rhythm regulation
Melatonin is a neurohormone produced in the pineal gland, one of the endocrine glands. Its main function is to regulate the body’s circadian rhythm, which is why it is often referred to as the pointer of the human biological clock. Melatonin production usually begins in the evening. It reaches its peak between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM—this is the time when the three phases of deep sleep typically occur, during which the body undergoes its most intense regeneration. During perimenopause, melatonin secretion almost disappears. Along with substances like pheromones, progesterone, collagen, and flavonoids, melatonin is considered a youth hormone that helps maintain both physical and mental health. Melatonin available in supplements is a substitute for the natural hormone produced by the human body. Since sleep problems are so common among perimenopausal women, melatonin appears to be a reasonable treatment option for sleep disorders in this group, especially for those who are not good candidates for hormone replacement therapy.*
